The Battery-Kutter Story
1989
In 1989 Joachim Kutter founded the Battery-Kutter company (in those days still known under its old name, TKL). At the start, the firm’s offices were set up in a family house in Hamburg Poppenbüttel, whilst the batteries were stored in the garage. The business grew and soon enough, it was bursting at the seams. Having decided to stay in the Poppenbüttel area, the firm moved to a nearby office building in the same neighbourhood.
1993
In 1993 our sister company Wamtechnik was founded in Poland. Not long after being established, Wamtechnik became the sole distributor for Panasonic batteries throughout Poland. We are proud that with our company Wamtechnik in Warsaw, which was founded over 30 years ago, we are now one of the market leaders in the battery pack manufacturing sector on the Polish market. As EN ISO 9001 certified company, Wamtechnik has received various awards and is one of the most modern and technically-proficient businesses in Europe. Since it started trading in 1993, it has now grown to over 340 employees. Our head office in Hamburg advises and serves customers, looks after new business, and handles imports and project management. Its sales focus is on Germany and its neighbouring countries.
1994
Joachim's son Hendrik has been working for his father’s company ever since completing his training in wholesale and export sales. During the same period, Hendrik took an evening course in business administration. When Hendrik successfully completed his studies in 1999, he became Battery-Kutter’s managing director.
2002
In 2002 Battery-Kutter moved to its offices in the Poppenbütteler Bogen.
2004
Introduction of our own brand SUN Battery. SUN Battery stands for AGM batteries of the highest quality and latest technology and offer a wide range of of VdS-approved batteries.
2005
In 2005, the youngest son, Kai Kutter, joined the family company after completing a sales apprenticeship and a business studies degree. Kai also became a managing director of the company in 2009.
2006
After training in advertising sales and doing a marketing degree in London, the daughter of the family, Julia von Kap-herr (née Kutter), joined her brothers at the firm in 2006.
2008
Joachim Kutter retired in 2008 and has been enjoying life on the golf course. He’s very pleased that his 3 children have continued making the company a success, and hopes that Battery-Kutter will remain a family-run business for generations to come.
2013
In January 2013, Battery-Kutter became a DIN EN ISO 9001 certified company. The certificate applies to quality control in the following areas: development, placement on the market, sales and servicing of batteries, rechargeable batteries, charging technology, protection circuits and battery monitoring.
2017
Battery-Kutter is audited by Siemens Schweiz AG - Building Technology Division according to VDA 6.3 (2nd Edition) and confirmed as Preferred Supplier. In the supplier evaluation with focus on cooperation, quality, delivery reliability and technology, Battery-Kutter was rated by Siemens Schweiz AG - Building Technology Division with 96 out of 100 possible points. We are very pleased about this excellent rating!
2018
Battery-Kutter is a 2019 champion of growth, according to FOCUS Magazin and statistics service STATISTA.
In addition Battery-Kutter receives the exclusive distribution rights to the SSB Battery brand. Exclusive brand rights will then be added in 2021. In this course, the sales department will be significantly expanded.
2019
Having taken part for second time this year, Battery-Kutter was again crowned by FOCUS BUSINESS and STATISTA ‘growth champion 2020’. According to FOCUS, these businesses are considered vital innovators and drivers of economic growth, by creating jobs and by being instrumental in securing Germany’s position as a business location.
With 5 large warehouse locations in Germany, Battery-Kutter is now one of the largest VdS suppliers in the country. Customers can expect advantages like high product availability, 24-hour delivery and strong logistics expertise.
Team leaders and management jointly revised the existing corporate mission statement and and adapted our values, principles and guiding principles to the corporate structures that have evolved over time.
2020
To prepare for the future and to enable our continuous growth, Battery-Kutter moved to a new, larger building in Norderstedt (Hamburg).
Battery-Kutter has already employed 22 new employees this year. At this time our company has more than 60 employess in total.
2021
Above average growth in terms of turnover and staff – for the third time in a row these characteristics have earnt Battery-Kutter a place on the 500 FOCUS-Business Growth Champions list. It makes Battery-Kutter one of the fastest growing businesses in Germany.
2022
Unbelievable but true... Battery-Kutter was voted growth champion for the fourth time in succession, making Battery-Kutter one of the fastest-growing companies in Germany again this year according to FOCUS and Statista.
In addition, we are very pleased to have been awarded the "Hamburg’s best employer 2022" quality seal.
