According to the German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar), the capacity of large-scale battery storage systems in Germany could increase fivefold within the next two years. However, in view of the rapid expansion of photovoltaic systems, the association is calling for a further acceleration of storage expansion.
A miniature nuclear battery from the Chinese company Betavolt, smaller than a coin, should be able to supply power for decades and thus revolutionize the battery market.
Offshore plants for energy generation have been an alternative to onshore wind and solar plants for years. By using free sea or lake areas, land areas can be conserved or used for other purposes such as agriculture. We provide an overview of planned projects.
Electric cars have sold extremely well in Norway right from the start - and the trend is continuing: In September 2024, a full 96.4 percent of new registrations were electric, a new record. Grid-friendly charging is now also being promoted to meet the rising demand.
Electricity is increasingly being generated from renewable energies worldwide, but fossil fuels will continue to make a significant contribution to emissions until the end of the decade, according to the forecasts in this year's World Energy Outlook.
The troubled battery manufacturer Varta has a new shareholder as part of restructuring measures. Car manufacturer Porsche is particularly interested in a specific division of Varta and is initially investing 30 million euros in the parent company.
We proudly announce: Our new high-rate AGM batteries with “xtreme” discharge rates and 30 % more high-current power with up to 35 % less space requirement compared to the SBL-HR series from SSB Battery. In addition to excellent discharge behavior, a service life of > 12 years is achieved here.
We are happy to announce that our team continues to grow with two new members and welcome Kathrin Rick and Jarred Neubert!

The market for electronic security technology once again recorded growth last year, generating sales of over five billion euros. However, challenges in the construction industry and a persistent shortage of skilled workers continue to challenge the sector.
Research is being carried out worldwide on an innovative lithium solid-state battery that will outperform the classic lithium-ion battery and replace it in electric car applications. In Germany, the battery start-up “High Performance Battery” is also researching a promising variant of the innovative battery and is on the verge of series production.
As part of the energy transition, the expansion of renewable energies in Germany is in full swing - and the first major successes of the expansion can already be seen. According to preliminary calculations, the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) expects around 58% of gross domestic electricity consumption to be covered by renewable energies in the first half of 2024.
Lithium is the most efficient, but by no means the most sustainable or cost-effective material for manufacturing batteries. The most promising alternative for the future is currently sodium - but so far, energy density and battery materials have been the main factors holding back its breakthrough. Recent research projects give hope.
Electric driving: What has long since arrived in the automotive industry is far from established in aviation and shipping. Although it has long been known that cruises and container ships have enormous CO2 emissions, shipping is still a long way from being environmentally friendly. At present, there are still many challenges, but also hope - a look at the latest developments.
We are very delighted, that we have been awarded the CO2 seal by our partner wirkaufendeinenabfall.de. This seal certifies a number of environmental improvements that we have been able to achieve with the help of the company's baling presses. Lithium is also known as “white gold”. This is because it is still essential for the production of smartphones and electric cars, for example, but access to and extraction of this critical raw material are contested. Lithium has also been found in deep layers of rock in the Upper Rhine Graben - a company has now started to extract the precious metal using geothermal energy. But what potential does extraction have here in Germany?
China is on the way to establishing its dominance in greentech. The country is achieving efficient production and growing exports, particularly in the field of e-mobility, especially in the global South. The aim of increasing investment in greentech in China has several purposes: creating industrial pillars for green technologies, serving the export market and combating local air pollution.
At Battery-Kutter, togetherness is very important to us. Of course, this also includes spending time together on fun activities. At the end of February, we therefore organized a fun evening of bowling.
Lithium-ion batteries offer enormous advantages thanks to their high energy density and long service life and are therefore widely used worldwide. However, they are repeatedly criticized, particularly due to the scarcity of raw materials, which are difficult to recycle. The search for alternatives is therefore omnipresent. Researchers from China are now working on promising calcium-air batteries.
Last year, the number of patent applications at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office rose significantly. Compared to the previous year, there was an increase in applications in the battery sector in particular - a further sign that electromobility is booming.
Europe has been steadily expanding the wind energy sector for more than a decade. In 2023, the EU was able to almost double the total output of new turbines compared to previous years. An important step towards the climate and energy targets, but the latest figures from the industry association WindEurope also show that there is still room for improvement in some areas.
