How can electricity from renewable energies be stored and which systems are suitable for this?

Battery energy storage systems (BESS for short) can be used to store electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar energy or wind power. The main task is to store surplus electricity that cannot be consumed at the time of generation. This means that the electricity can be called up at another time when it is needed. The advantages of battery energy storage systems are cost savings, sustainable energy and higher yields.
Most battery energy storage systems are unearthed and can therefore be easily installed in a wide variety of locations. A typical BESS consists of two core parts, the battery cabinets and a combiner.

Lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) or lithium-iron-phosphate batteries (LiFePO) are usually used in the battery cabinets of BESS units. These are ideal for storing energy due to their very high energy density. 

The combiner, on the other hand, serves as a communication point for the battery cabinets, among other things. State-of-the-art battery management systems (BMS) are used to monitor each individual cell so that irregularities and faults can be recognised and rectified immediately. Reliable functionality cannot be guaranteed without specific measurement data from the batteries. 

The combiner also serves as a link between the energy storage system and the inverter, enabling energy to be exchanged with the power grid. A variety of safety systems and an emergency stop switch help to fulfil the highest safety standards.

Which battery should I use for my energy storage system?

The main component of battery storage systems is the battery. Lithium-ion batteries are now the most popular batteries for storing solar power. One advantage of this type of battery is undoubtedly its high energy density. Compared to lead-acid batteries, which were often used in the past, only half the volume is required for the same capacity. Lithium-ion batteries also score points with their long service life of at least 20 years and their high efficiency.

Our LiBrick series is ideally suited for use in photovoltaic systems or energy storage systems. This is our standardised and individually configurable energy system. You can therefore configure your LiBrick entirely according to your specific wishes and requirements. The LiBrick series comprises lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion batteries), which can be installed in any position and have a high cycle stability. The batteries are powerful, high-quality, have CAN bus communication and are lightweight compared to lead-acid batteries with the same performance.
