What are the functions of a smoke and heat extraction system?
As with fire protection in general and fire alarm systems, the main task of a SHEVS is to protect people and therefore lives. This is achieved by dissipating heat as well as fire and smoke gases from the burning building. In this way, complete smoke build-up can be prevented and escape routes remain recognisable and smoke-free. In addition, the smoke and heat extraction system helps the fire brigade to do its job by keeping the rescue and fire brigade access routes visible and usable.
Another task of the SHEVS is to prevent the building from overheating. This would not only have a significant negative impact on the living creatures inside, but also on the statics and general construction of the building. The system therefore contributes to the protection of people and material assets.
