What are light electric vehicles?
We are in the area of so-called micromobility. This includes smaller vehicles with an electric drive, so-called Light Electric Vehicles or LEV. According to the definition, small electric vehicles have a maximum design speed of at least 6 km/h and a maximum of 20 km/h. These vehicles must also have the following features:
- no seat for the driver or self-balancing vehicle with or without a seat,
- a power limit of 500 W or 1.4 kW for self-balancing vehicles,
- a steering or handrail,
- an overall width of no more than 0.7 m, an overall height of no more than 1.4 m and an overall length of no more than 2 m,
- a maximum weight without driver of 55 kg.
The most common small electric vehicles are e-scooters. Segways and some e-skateboards and pedelecs also belong to this category. Strictly speaking, the classic e-bike does not belong to the category of small electric vehicles, as most models can easily travel faster than 20 km/h, for example.
